Special guest: CANTOR SHMUEL BARZILAI – vocals Knapp 100 Jahre nach Josef Miklas und inzwischen auch schon einige Jahre nach Wim Wenders’ „Buena Vista Social Club“ und der darauf folgenden Vermarktung dürfen auch wir der Verklärung ein Stück näher rücken: Wien hat mittlerweile nicht nur unzählige kubanische Bars, Restaurants, Filmtage und Merchandising-Produkte, Wien hat seit 2008 ein Che Guevara-Denkmal im Donaupark, seit 2009 ein „Kubanisches Museum der schönen Künste“ in Hietzing, und seit 2010 mit Alfred Gusenbauer einen SP-Politiker, der seinen 50. Geburtstag in Havanna feierte. Havanna andererseits hat ein „Salm-Bräu” in seinem Zentrum. Wien hat Ensembles wie Candela oder Maximo Lieder und Musiker wie Eldis La Rosa, Miguel Garcia Leonardo Perez, Marcelo Ramos, Eugenio Iporre-Castro und Milagros Pinera Ibaceta. Havanna hat ab und zu das Vienna Art Orchestra und als Dauergast Christine Jones. Nicht selten klingt heute das Wienerische kubanisch und umgekehrt. Für Christine Jones nicht wirklich ungewöhnlich, hat sie doch seit ihrer Jugend, also seit ihren Engagements in Barcelona (u.a. bei Memphis Slim) das, was man als einen hispanoafrolateinamerikanischen Hang bezeichnen könnte. Mit Kuba verbindet sie aber nicht nur ihr perfektes Spanisch, sondern auch eine Reihe von Konzerten und eine tiefe Liebe zu den Menschen, dem Land und deren Musik. Eine Liebe, die nicht erst mit dieser Produktion vom Sax Magic Quartet erwidert wurde. Das Magic Sax Quartet aus Santiago de Cuba besteht seit 1995, spannt einen musikalischen Bogen von Jazz bis zum kubanischen Son und ist vor allem für die harmonische Verschmelzung der einzelnen Musikrichtungen sowie für seine Vielseitigkeit berühmt. Seine Liebe zur Schrammelmusik entdeckte das Ensemble durch Johann Schrammels Urenkel Peter Schrammel, der ihnen erstmals Notenmaterial schenkte. One hundred years after the first experimenting of Austrian musicians with cross over music, and some time after Wim Wender´s introduction of Cuban music to a wider world, Cuba and Vienna have come even more closely together. Vienna not only boasts innumerable Cuban bars and Restaurants, Cuban film festivals and merchandising, this city also has its own monument to the Che, there is a museum of “Cuban Fine Arts”, and former prime ministers celebrate their birthdays in Havana. The center of Havana on the other hand now is home to a Viennese brewery. Vienna prides itself on Cuban style musicians like Candela and Maximo Lieder, on Cuban born musicians like Eldis La Rosa, Miguel Garcia Leonardo Perez, Marcelo Ramos, Eugenio Iporre-Castro, and Milagros Pinera Ibaceta. Havana now and then is visited by Austrian musicians like Vienna Art Orchestra and frequently by Christine Jones. Viennese music sounds Cuban, Cuban music Austrian. Not unheard of to the ears of Christine Jones, who from her youth on has had a predilection for hispano-afro-latinamerican sounds. Not only her fluent Spanish, her many concerts there and a deep love root her to Cuba, its people, its countryside, its music. This love is not for the first time reciprocated in this production by Sax Magic Quartet. Sax Magic Quartet from Santiago de Cuba was founded in 1995. Their music spans a bridge from Jazz to Cuban Son and is well known for their harmonious fusing of different styles as well as their versatility. Their love for Schrammel music was inspired by Peter Schrammel, a great-grandson of Johann Schrammel, who gave them their first Schrammel sheet music. Knowing all musicians involved we can predict: this won´t be the last time they play together. It is a case of: what belongs together will harmonize!
Cien años después de los primeros experimentos “cross over” por parte de músicos austriacos, y unos cuantos después de que Wim Wenders diera de conocer a un público mundial la música cubana con su “Buena Vista Social Club”, Viena y Cuba se acercan aún más. Viena hoy en día hace gala de innumerables bares y restaurantes cubanos, tiene su propio festival de cine cubano, presenta un monumento al Che y un “Museo Cubano de Bellas Artes”, tiene políticos que celebran sus cumpleaños en La Habana. En el centro de La Habana por el otro lado ya encontramos una cervecería vienesa. Viena tiene grupos musicales como Candela o Maximo Lieder, músicos como Eldis La Rosa, Miguel Garcia Leonardo Perez, Marcelo Ramos, Eugenio Iporre-Castro y Milagros Pinera Ibaceta. A La Habana van con frecuencia a tocar el Vienna Art Orchestra y, naturalmente, Christine Jones. Con frecuencia suena cubana la música vienesa y austriaca la música cubana. Christine Jones de esto no se extraña. Desde muy joven tiene una predilección por el sonido hispano-afro-latinoamericano. Con Cuba se siente unida no solamente por su dominio del idioma sino también por toda una serie de conciertos allí y un amor profundo por la gente, el país y su música. Este amor no por primera vez se ve reflectado en esta producción por el Sax Magic Quartet. El Sax Magic Quartet de Santiago de Cuba se fundó en 1995. Construye puentes musicales entre el Jazz y el Son cubano, se hace famoso por su integración armónica de estilos diferentes y su gran variedad. Descubrieron su interés por la música Schrammel a través de unas hojas de música que recibieron de Peter Schrammel, el bisnieto de Johann Schrammel. Quien conoce a todos los implicados sabrá: no será la última vez que se les puede escuchar juntos. ¡Lo que pertenece junto entonará!
