In the 20th century a number of original works have been written for the viola. Thanks to the creativity of numerous outstanding executants. In recent decades the viola repertoire has been extended by a large number of transcriptions, most of all by William Primrose. Of all the works on this CD only one was originally written for the viola, whilst the others are transcriptions of works originally written for violin or piano.
